Peter Sloan grew up in Calgary and was influenced to become an artist by his grandfather J.D. Turner who started Canadian Art Galleries. He moved east and graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1979 with honours and then a 5th year assistantship in the foundry. He worked as a freelance commercial sculptor and continued his ongoing artistic practice. After taking consecutive jewellery casting courses at George Brown College, he started part time teaching, and has continuously been doing so for over 30 years.
In 2012 he received a BFA at Nipissing University and recently completed one year MFA Jewellery and Silversmithing at the Edinburgh College of Art, before transferring to ACAD in their inaugural MFA Craft Media to finish the degree. He is currently based in Masset on Haida Gwaii where he is working on setting up a teaching studio and Artist-in-Residence program.
